Re-elected Edo lawmakers shun valedictory session

All except, two members of Edo State House of Assembly, Majority leader of Edo State House of Assembly on Thursday, shunned the valedictory session of the 6th Assembly. All except, two members of Edo State House of Assembly, Majority leader of Edo State House of Assembly on Thursday, shunned the valedictory session of the 6th Assembly.

MEMBERS OF EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Roland Asoro representing Orhionmwon South and Kingsley Ugabi (Etsako East) Constituencies were the two legislators among the the Eight re-elected members who attended the sitting which had 18 members in attendance out of the 24-member All Progressives Congress (APC) led Assembly.

The absence of the five lawmakers, Henry Okhuarobo (Ikpoba-Okha), Christopher Okaeben (Oredo East), Crosby Eribo (Egor), Ganiyu Audu (Etsako  West) and Victor Sabor-Tiger Edoror (Esan Central) Constituencies, did not stop the sitting which began at 11:26am and ended 2:45pm, was chaired by the Speaker of house, Hon. Adjoto Kabiru.

The absence of the legislators who are staunch loyalists of the national Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole may not be unconnected to the lingering crises between Oshiomhole and the State governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Mr. Patrick Iluobe, was absent with apology.

The Speaker of the house, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, said the six Assembly passed 71 bills and adopted 191 resolutions.

He listed the law that prescribed Community Development Associations (CDA), the Violence Against persons (VAP) law and Anti cultism bill which is yet to be signed into law, and thr passage of bill prohibiting Human Trafficking which gave birth to Taskforce Committee against Human Trafficking and irregular Migration as remarkable achievements the 6th Assembly will be remembered for.

He also said the Assembly under his watch, paid fines for some inmates at Oko medium prisons and secure the release of some prisoners.

The Speaker also directed members of the house to quickly return government property that are in their possession including vehicles and customised vehicle number plates to the Clark of the House, Mr. Yahaya Umogbae to pave the way for the 7th Assembly.

Adjoto who prayed for the peace in the 7th Assembly and commended the Oba of Benin, HRM. Oba Ewuare II and the State governor, Godwin Obaseki for their cooperation, directed the legislators to vacate their quarters before Friday June 2019 12 mid-night.

The Majority leader of the House of Assembly, Mr. Roland  Asoro, moved a motion, adjourning the 6th Assembly Sine-die.

The female legislator in the house, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, representing Uhunmwode Constituency, seconded the  motion i ln the absence of a counter motion.

The Speaker directed the Sargent at arm to give him the gavel and the mace which are the symbol of authority to him and thereafter passed same to the Clerk of the house, Mr. Yahaya Umogbai “for safe keeping”.
