The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has declared that 2.5 million jobs created in rice production has caused urban-rural migration.

He made the remark on Thursday while delivering the 3rd eminent lecture series of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) held at Ugbowo Campus of the institution.

The Governor revealed that the jobs were created through the agricultural sectoral value chain of the federal government via the CBN anchor borrowers programme for farmers.

Emefiele stated that President, Muhammadu Buhari led-admnistration has taken steps to revamp and sustain investment in non-oil sector.

“We are beginning to see people migrating from urban to rural areas in Nigeria. Reverse use to be the case. Rice production has created 2.5million jobs”, he said.

The CBN Governor who spoke on the topic: “”Beyond the Global Financial Crisis: Monetary Policy Under Global Uncertainty”, said Nigeria will stop importation of palm oil and foods which cost the nation over N1 trillion annual export bill, in the next two years.

“Today, we are battling with importation and by the special grace of God, we shall win. This is because we are regenerating and reforesting our oil palm oil plantations”.

But, Nigeria’s unemployment level has risen to 21 million, according to the data obtained from the national Bureau of statistics (NBS).
