The Great Benin Descendants, GBD, has berated the offsprings of Ogiamien family led by one Mr. Arisco for challenging the sovereignty of the Oba of Benin, HRM Oba Ewuare II.
The Coordinator General of Great Benin Descendants, Mr. Izoduwa Imasuen, state the group has deployed subterranean means with active connivance of two ethnic groups to distort Benin history and drag Benin monarchy to distribute.
He explained that Ogiamien who was a hereditary title Chief in the palace and after his defeat by Oba Ewedor at about 1255AD.
Imasuen spoke at a Press Conference at the Weekend in Benin City where he denounced the misguided agitation by the group.
He charged the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to cure the demented group of malady.
Imasuen recalled how the erstwhile governor in his time when the issue of Ogiamien came up, he (Oshiomhole) was able to deal with it perfectly and that Obaseki should follow same and deal with it passionately.
“The prime suspect in this Ogiamien case is one Arisco that was jailed not too long ago by Edo State government of Adams Aliu Oshiomhole who from recent happenings seems to be more Benin than the present governor called Obaseki.
“The said Arisco has recruited minnows of internet fraudsters and even went as far as to recruit a homeless destitute in Port Harcourt, an Ikwerre man by tribe to be at the forefront of the agitation of tearing Benin Kingdom apart while he works from the shadows.
“We demand that Godwin Obaseki should act quickly being the governor of Edo State because we all are aware the role an Etsako man played in dealing with these unscrupulous people and it is that conviction we remember the very words of our king, Oba Erediauwa of blessed memory that only the Benin descendants know the true value of their ‘Beninness’ in contrast to those who think that they are now Benin”, he said.
Amowie said the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs as well as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs should speedily notify the governor on the actions necessary for the abominable act committed by Arisco and the Ogiamien’s as a result of their failure, the crises has lingered on whereas during Adams Oshiomhole’s government, the weight of the law was heavily melted on them.
The Coordinator of the pressure group, also appealed to the State government to act fast adding that failure to do that, they are left with no option than doing it in their own way.
“We therefore call on the state government to do something about this and failure to do that which we have intellectually asked, will lead us personally dealing with these people in manner befitting the enemies of the Oba of Benin”, he said.
According to him, “The Benis in the past knew how to deal with such unwanted elements”.
