The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has begun a training programme for 28 Physically challenged persons in Edo State.

The skill acquisition training which started on Wednesday in Benin City, will last for 14 days.

The programme was jointly organized by the Commission and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

NDDC is a federal government agency established with a mandate of developing the oil rich region of the Niger Delta.

In a remark, the Coordinator of the NDDC, Mrs Theresa Patrison, assured that the training was to enable them acquire necessary skills for self employment in other for them to earn a living.

She said the programme would help to enhance Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME) which is the main objective and strengthen the economies of the Niger Delta States.

“It will help the beneficiaries become job creators instead of job seekers. they will also learn how to manage their business properly 

“The programme is going to be a 14-day intensive training programme specifically for the physically challenged persons in Edo,” Patrison said.

At the end of the training programme, according to her, starter packs will be distributed to participants according to the skills they have leant.

Patrison noted that participants would be trained in Bead making, Photography, wig making, shoe and bag making, Head tie,(Auto Gele) manicure and pedicure, makeup and GSM repairs among others.

The programme was initiated through the Niger Delta Regional Master Plan (NDRDMP) to address policies for economic development in rural and urban areas of the region.
