The Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA), has urged Nigerians living in South Africa, to be conscious of their security in the face of renewed xenophobic attacks on foreigners in that country.

Mr Habib Miller, the Public Relations Officer of NUSA, told NAN in a telephone interview from Pretoria, that Nigerians were affected by the latest attacks.

He said that it was necessary to make the call in order to prevent further casualties in form of Nigerian lives, property and goods.
“We enjoin our people to always be conscious of their environment and maintain constant communication with each other.
“We also advise Nigerians in various Provinces to report incidents of attacks against foreigners to appropriate authorities, especially the South African Police Service and Community Policing Forum.
“In addition, members are encouraged to report any incident of attack to the local chapter of NUSA.

Miller said that the NUSA leadership at the Wards and Provinces are expected to inform the union’s National Secretariat for onward progression to appropriate authorities.
The spokesman thanked the South African and Nigerian governments on their handling of the crisis, advising Nigerians to avoid acts capable of provoking further attacks against them.
“The union advises Nigerians to beware of people capitalising on the attacks to claim leadership of the Nigerian community in South Africa.
“We urge our people to disregard moves by such people, who might want them to believe that they are working on their behalf,” he appealed.
