Vigilante arrest bandits in Edo

A local vigilante group in Esan West Local Government of the State, has arrested suspected bandits. The five-man robbery gang suspects were arrested while attempting to block Uromi-Ewu -Abuja highway at Ewu junction of the Council and handed over to Police for prosecution. The suspects had been responsible for the alleged kidnapping and armed robbery

A local vigilante group in Esan West Local Government of the State, has arrested suspected bandits.

The five-man robbery gang suspects were arrested while attempting to block Uromi-Ewu -Abuja highway at Ewu junction of the Council and handed over to Police for prosecution.

The suspects had been responsible for the alleged kidnapping and armed robbery on Esanland-Edo South Senatorial district of the State.

It was learnt that their arrest followed upsurge in kidnappings and armed robbery in the area.

It would be recalled that six persons, including a Superintendent of police were last week kidnapped in the same area while traveling to Asaba, Delta State Capital.

The police officer who was identified as Godwin Oshiomogbe, was abducted and killed by the kidnappers while his body was recovered in a forest near Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South East Local Government.

Five guns, including AK47, rounds of ammunitions, battle axe, charms were recovered from the suspects. 

On interrogation, the armed bandits confessed that they were on their way to Gboghidi Camp at Ubiaja which they use as their base or hide out when luck ran into them.

In the meantime, Mr. Lawrence Odiase, Vice Chairman of Esan Vigilante Group in a statement has appealed to Esan sons and daughters, other philanthropic organizations to assist the group to get rid of criminal elements in the area.
