Two Officials in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State in Produce Board Committee are in Police net over an alleged abduction of a farmer.

Chairman and member of the Committee in the Council, were among the 81 suspected criminals paraded recently by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed of Nigerian Police in Benin City.
The 38-year-old Fidelis Owu and Emmanuel Ike, 33-year-old suspects, said they participated in the kidnap of a farmer, Mrs. Rose Abumere in February 2019.
Owu who is a father of three Children, said he got the sum of N111,500 from one Mr. Celestine (now at large) with two other members of the syndicate.
The other suspect, Emmanuel Ike, admitted that he received the sum of N105, 000 from Celestine whom he alleged was a motorcycle rider.
Speaking on the level of their involvement, Fidelis Owu, said he committed himself for driving the kidnap gang for the operation.
He said he was aware of the mission, but added that he returned hope after taken the victim, Mrs. Rose Abumere to the kidnappers den.
He also alleged that Celestine collected the sum of N700,000 ransom from the family of the victim and gave him N111,500 before he was picked up by Police on February 28, 2019.
He said security operatives stormed his house at about 2am and forced his door open while he was already asleep with his Children in his sitting room.
Owu, claimed to be OND holder in accounting graduate of Kings Polytechnic, Ubiaja in Esan North East Local Government Area of the State.
Asked what they used to feed the abductee, he said: “we normally come to town to source for money to get food for her. They (kidnappers) were responsible for that”.
“”I am the present produce Chairman in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
“I got N111, 500 from the kidnappers of Mrs. Rose Abumere.
“I spent the money on social amenities. I am married. I have have three Children”, he said.
Also confessing to the crime, Emmanuel Ike, alleged that they ambushed Mrs. Rose Abumere and whisked her away into a waiting vehicle in which Mr. Fidelis Owu a waiting drove to the scene of crime.
He said the kidnapped victim was in their custody for 17 days before she regained her freedom after the N700, 000 ransom was paid by her family.
He said the ransom was reduced from N55 million to N700, 000, following his intervention after Mrs. Rose Abumere had spent 15 days with the kidnappers.
Ike who claimed to be a plantain plantation farmer, revealed that Mrs. Rose Abumere was kidnapped and kept forest via Benin-Abraka road.
He said Celestine provided details of the kidnapped victim and led the operation.
He also said a certain gigantic property which Mrs. Abumere was developing at Ubiaja, caught their attention to abduct her.
According to Emmanuel Ike,
”I have a plantain plantation and I am from Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area.
“It was a friend of mine called Celestine that collected the N700, 000 ransom.
“When he returned from where he went to collect the money, he (Celestine) gave me the sum of N105, 000 out of the N700, 000.
“She was kidnapped at the early hours of the day.
“We went to her house to lay ambush for her and got her into the vehicle my Emmanuel drove.
“Celestine is a motorcycle rider. He was the person that provided details of the woman
“He was aware that the woman was developing a property somewhere.
“Those of us in produce Committee collect revenue for the Council.
“It was on the 15th day after the woman was taken into our custody, that Celestine came to meet me and said he had reduced the ransom from N55 million, to N1 million.
“But, Mrs. Rose Abumere family has just pleaded with him that they can only pay N700, 000. So, I told him to accept the money from them and stop stressing the woman.
“He (Celestine) immediately agreed with me went to collect the ransom before she was released”, he said.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed, said security operatives were on the trail of other members of the kidnap gang.
He said the suspects will be charged to court when investigation is completed.
