The hunger for personal triumph over a boundary dispute between Obagie – Uwafiokun and Igueogboe villages, has resulted to a bloodbath.

Already, three persons at the villages in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, have reportedly been battered in connection with the attack.

Francis Osadolor from Obagie – Uwafiokun village.

Also, scores have fled their homes over fear of possible reprisal attack.

In a swift response to the attack, the people of Obagie – Uwafiokun led by their village head (Odionwere), Pa. Palmer Otasowie has appealed to the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II to intervene in the crises.

Otasowie’s appeal to save them, followed reported attacks and intimidation by persons from Igueogboe, the neighbouring village.

Briefing journalists on the development, Amb. Hon. Joseph Aghedo, alleged that trouble started when the village
got the approval of Benin Monarch to be autonomous village.

He said the approval came when the boundary separating the two villages were yet to be mapped out by the Oba’s Palace sometimes ago.

The grieving village head, alleged that the verdict monarch granting his village autonomy, may incensed the neighbouring village who resorted to self help.

The latest attack, according to him, occurred on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

He further alleged that the incident, left two members of Obagie – Uwafiokun with body bags.

Otasowie, revealed that injured were still recuperating at an undisclosed hospital.

He gave the names of the victims as Festus Osadolor, Chris Ugiagbe, and Osaro Osadolor.

Reports said the trio were in the bush with developers when they were allegedly attacked by suspected hoodlums who adorned themselves with army uniforms.

Corroboraring Pa Otasowie’s claims, Prince John Uwafiokun Eweka laments; “He has been intimidating us. He has arrested us severally”.

The recent one, some developers in company of some members of this village went into the bush to lay foundation.

“Only for Oduagbon Aghedo and his boys came with soldiers in uniform, they were armed and fired our boys.”

The lingering dispute has been taken to various authorities and it was directed that both villages should maintain status quo until the boundary is defined by the Monarch or the State boundary Committee, they said.

But they (Obagie – Uwafiokun people) argued that “until the boundary is defined, nobody can actually lay claim to ownership of any land or boundary as they truly have no boundary with the people of Igueogboe village who they said were part of them before peace eluded the villages.

Rather, Obagie – Uwafiokun share common boundary with; ‘Ogheghe, Igueadolor, Igueoshodin, Arah, Omi and Igueoshodin II, he said.

They had previously written a letter dated; 11 October, 2017, requesting the Oba Palace to map out the boundary, they stated.

“Your Majesty, in line with your pronouncements, we humbly request that the boundary between our village and Igueogboe be marked out now to avoid future contest since from time immemorial, both villages were regarded as one,” a paragraph of the letter reads.

In reaction, the Odionwere of Igueogboe, denied the allegations, saying that he away on that fateful day.

But he admitted that he was only briefed on his return in response to a distress call by his people.

According to him, “it was the people of Obagie – Uwafiokun that attacked his boys who sustained injuries of various degrees.

He alleged that “the contentious portion of land is about 500fts away from his compound, he enthused.
