SEASONED broadcaster and founder, Mabel Oboh Centre for Save Our Stars, MOCSOS, Mabel Oboh has reiterated her resolve to ensure that the Nigerian entertainers are made to enjoy the best of healthcare to halt the unwelcome attitude of going cap in hand to beg for financial assistance whenever they have health challenges.
Oboh made this assertion during the week, at a joint press conference, in Lagos, to officially announce her NGO’s partnership with the UK-based JOM Charity to facilitate its newly launched Health Insurance Scheme for entertainers.

She had promised last December to roll out an insurance scheme for entertainers billed to kick off earlier this year. Expectedly, the scheme finally kicked off recently with the signing of the healthcare partnership deal with Ronsberger Nigeria Limited, at the company’s headquarters in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Oboh said the whole idea is not only to have affordable health insurance scheme, but also, to campaign for those entertainers that cannot afford to enroll in this affordable health insurance.
Founder of JOM Charity, Chief Josephine Oboh-Macleod, who flew in from London said her organization decided to identify with this laudable project because she believes that this genuine health insurance scheme is very good for artists, entertainers and their affiliates. “It is one of the insurance schemes you do not have to be a member of an association to join,” she added.
Speaking further, she said “There is no reason to go on a degrading, demoralizing and belittling begging spree anytime one is sick.”
JOM Charity, according to her, intends to register and sponsor some grass root musicians and artistes, masquerade acrobatic dancers. “We want to preserve these artists so that they have more years to entertain and pass on their knowledge to the youth.”
“Since 2015 the visual sector has lost so many renowned artists and I believe that some of these deaths could have been prevented with early detection, preventative and proper monitoring of ill health. We have lost Sola Fakeye, son of world-renowned master sculpture Bisi Fakeye who is also late, exceptional painters Ben Osaghae, Kunle Osundina, Master sculpture Monday Akhidue, his protégée Osatuma, and much more.”
“Not to mention renowned entertainers like Sam loco, Enebeli elebuwa. We believe that MOCSOS affordable health insurance scheme will improve entertainers overall well-being and give them rest of mind. Jom charity intends to promote resetting the mind sets of entertainers to make the wise decision that can give them good health, peace of mind and particularly save their lives by registering with MOCSOS.”
