Eight suspected drug barons involved in the attack at Divisional police station in Afuze, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State Tuesday night, have been arrested by security operatives.

The gunmen were said have detonated explosives and fired sporadic gunshots, killing a pregnant police officer, the Divisional police Officer (DPO), and two personnel in the line of duty.

A police source said, those arrested include a middle-aged man who reportedly pulled the trigger which killed the pregnant police woman Sergeant.

All the suspects arrested so far are from Edo State.

But, two others are still at large.

It was revealed that trouble started when the police in Afuze arrested one of the gang members and detained him in the police custody for a related crime.

The suspect was said to have contacted the leader of the gang shortly after his detention.

The leader of the 10-man gang was said to have offered undisclosed amount of money for bail.

But the DPO turned it down and requested for the case to be transfered to the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID) in Benin for further investigation, thereby compounding anger.

Infuriated over the alleged refusal, the leader of the gang directed his men who were outside to unleash mayhem on the police station, resulting in the killings of the policemen.
