No fewer than 33, 000 voters missed Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin free launch during the February 23, 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Those affected were from Ovia north East and Ovia South West Local Government Areas of Edo State.

The Nigerians were caught in the web of hunger, had anticipated that they would be fed after exercising their franchise.

No reason had been adduced to the sudden change, but, family sources, said the Patriarch had been unhappy.

Extreme as the situation, he (Igbinedion) did not receive visitors at his residence at Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the State on Saturday February 23rd 2019.

Most of the locals including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters, friends and his well-wishers alike, trekked a long distance under an inclement weather to the venue before the bombshell.

Recall that ‘free launch’ has become a regular tradition by Chief Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, especially during his Birthday Celebrations and general elections.

A domestic Staff of the Octogenarian who craved for anonymity, however told the crowd that “There is no free food today” (Saturday) unintelligibly.

Continuing: “Are you guys not aware that Chief lost one of his grandson?

“He (Igbinedion) does not want to see anybody now”. Please leave”, a twist of faith which left everyone in disappointment.

Lady Omosede Igbinedion, incumbent member of the House of Representatives and PDP Candidate for Ovia federal Constituency, narrowly lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate, Mr. Dennis Idahosa at the polls.

Pundits have blamed the indefinite suspension of the exercise on the death of his grandson.

Osaretin, is second son of a former governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion dynasty.

He died in a fatal accident in Dallas while driving with his Cousin, Esosa Oyemwense (now deceased), when they collided with an 18-wheeler at about 3am on February 16, 2019.

A family source said the grieving Octogenarian is still mourning Osaretin’s death.

Osaretin, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration with a degree in marketing, and a minor in economics.
