Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the killings during the general elections in some parts of the Country.

Edo State PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih made the observation while fielding questions from newsmen on Monday in Benin City.

He also said his party has seen virtue in supporting a new amendment in the electoral law, which makes it mandatory for all elections to be held in one day.

Orbih revealed that the initiative would check the heckling of bets by the military during elections and correct the shrinking space for free speech.

“We’ve seen a situation in Rivers State and some other States in the federation where people were killed in the Street. Innocent lives are lost, all in the quest to for power…The electoral process has been so bastardised.

“Nigerians are beginning to see a situation where people are not allowed to express themselves freely.

He pledged his leadership support for Alhalji Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 Presidential Candidate of PDP, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in court.

He explained that the voter apathy in the March 9, 2019 polls were pointers that outcome of the Presidential/national Assembly elections were far from the expectations of the electorate.

“This is democracy, you cannot use the military to determine the representative of the people in a democratic government”, he said.

The PDP Chairman stated that recent arrest of thugs 48 hours before the commencement of last Saturday polls in Akwa Ibom State, confirmed the high level of unemployment in Edo State.

According to him, “Edo State had dance turn people to exporting zone for unemployed youths who were engaged as thugs for the purpose of elections”.
