The crisis rocking Amagba Community in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State has taken frightening dimension, following the gruesome murder of one Pa. Akpasubi John by suspected hired armed thugs over a protracted land dispute and leadership tussle in the Community.
It was gathered that his only daughter, Bose Akpasubi was said to have narrowly escaped death by whiskers during the attack.
It was learnt that Bose upon sighting her father laying lifelessly on the ground following an attack by the hoodlums, escaped through the back door of their residence.
Speaking with our Crime Correspondent, a resident of the area privy to the development who craved for annonymity for fear of being attacked, said that trouble started following dispute of who becomes the Community Youth Leader (Okaghele).
She stated that efforts made by elders of the community failed to address the crisis, adding that the situation snowballed into the killing of Pa. Akpasubi as well as the arson in the Community.
“Bose was very lucky to have escaped death because she saw the killers of her father while coming out of the convenience room and the thugs never knew she was in the house.
“All they (hired thugs) taught was to attack her Bose’s father who is one of the elders in the community, thinking that Akpasubi was the only one at home. But after killing her father, upon sighting Bose who they believe may expose them, they tried to also eliminate her but she escaped”
“Although I don’t know the people that attacked Mr Akpasubi house, you know communal matters, especially when it’s related to land and leadership dispute, it’s always bloody.
“Mr Akpasubi died a horrible death, they stabbed him with knives, with injuries all over the diseased body and he died while he was been taken to the hospital for treatment. Bose was very lucky not to have been killed by her father’s killers.
Recall that that land and leadership tussle in Amagba Community have claimed lives despite repeated assurances by authorities concern to nip the crisis in the bud and forestall breakdown of law and order.
Contacted, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Moses Ogboe, said the Command was alerted of the killing of one Pa. Akpasubi John at his residence in Amagba resident.
“From our preliminary investigations, the unidentified armed thugs killed the man and when they noticed that someone saw the evil act and attempted to go after the person which was Bose. We advised her life to leave while she pursue justice wherever.
The Command is however on top of the issue”, Moses assured.
